PureOS OTA Update to Bring Native HQPlayer NAA Support Across the Kaiboer Range

Kaiboer PureOS music streamer

An excellent music streamer is defined by more than its hardware specifications at launch. Ongoing system updates and new features are an important part of its long-term value. While replacing hardware comes at a cost, OTA firmware updates can bring new listening experiences and new possibilities to equipment you already own.

Kaiboer plans to release a firmware update at the end of September 2026 for its music transports and music streamers with DAC running PureOS. The update will bring native HQPlayer Network Audio Adapter (NAA) support across the range, opening the door to advanced audio processing.

What Is HQPlayer?

HQPlayer is a well-established audio processing tool among experienced Hi-Fi enthusiasts. Its digital filters, noise-shaping options and advanced upsampling algorithms offer extensive ways to fine-tune playback. Traditionally, building such a system could be complex: a computer carrying out demanding DSP processing was often connected close to the audio equipment, potentially introducing electromagnetic interference or ground-loop noise. A separate network bridge could help separate the computer from the listening system, but added hardware, cabling and setup work.

HQPlayer audio processing and network playback setup

NAA separates the processing device from the playback device. A computer running HQPlayer can be located in another room or away from the audio system, where it performs upsampling, filtering and other processing. The processed audio stream travels over the local network to a Kaiboer PureOS device. A music transport then sends a digital signal to an external DAC, while a streamer with DAC can use its built-in converter.

The PureOS Advantage

This architecture physically separates the computer from the listening system, helping reduce the risk of computer-generated noise reaching the audio chain. Built-in NAA support also removes the need for a separate network bridge and simplifies the signal path. PureOS bypasses system-level sample-rate conversion (SRC), allowing audio processed by HQPlayer to reach the DAC without forced system resampling and preserving the processed stream’s sample-rate format.

Full NAA Integration

For this update, Kaiboer worked with Signalyst, the company behind HQPlayer, on integration, testing and certification. The firmware is closely adapted to the protocol’s communication requirements to support stable network playback, including demanding high-bitrate DSD streams, and to help avoid stuttering, dropouts and unwanted playback noise.

PureOS users can take advantage of this capability with either a music transport connected to their own DAC or a streamer with DAC. Models such as the DMP-K7 PRO and DMP-K8 PRO feature dual flagship ESS ES9039PRO DAC chips and tuning developed by Kaiboer with ESS, converting HQPlayer-processed audio into analogue output.

Two Independent Upsampling Options

PureOS users will be able to choose between two independent upsampling paths. For convenient operation without an additional computer, use the device’s built-in Couvora upsampling. To explore more filter styles and advanced noise-shaping options, switch to HQPlayer NAA and let an external computer handle the processing. These modes do not conflict, allowing users to choose according to the music and their listening preferences. The system’s existing core functions remain available.

PureOS local and HQPlayer NAA playback options

Existing features remain available, including official API integration with major Chinese music services, domestic and international Hi-Fi streaming apps, local NAS libraries, direct access through the K-Link cloud-storage matrix, AI music information matching and system-wide control through the Kaiboer Home App. NAA operates as an independent playback path and is used only when selected, preserving familiar everyday streaming and local-library listening.

Eligible Models and OTA Availability

The firmware update planned for the end of September covers the DMP-K7 range, DMP-K8, DMP-K8 PRO, AIO series and flagship DMP-K9 series. Users can unlock the new functionality by installing the OTA update when it is offered by their device. No hardware changes are required.

There is no single way to enjoy Hi-Fi. Some listeners prefer a convenient, ready-to-use system, while others enjoy exploring advanced configurations. Through continued firmware development, Kaiboer aims to serve both: reliable, smooth everyday listening and access to more sophisticated audio architectures.
