Price is often treated as a shortcut for judging Hi-Fi equipment. KAIBOER’s SP-K7 and SP-K9 passive speakers were developed to challenge that assumption and bring a capable listening system within reach of more music lovers.

The original article, published in May 2025, announced April 30, 2025 as the intended launch date. Both models use Peerless driver units described in the announcement as imported from Denmark, with a focus on natural sound and accessible Chinese-market pricing.

Peerless driver technology

Peerless began in Denmark in 1926 and has a long history of loudspeaker driver development. The original announcement highlighted the HDS mid/bass range and XT tweeters, along with the brand’s use in well-known speaker systems and theater installations.

KAIBOER selected HDS and XT units for the SP-K7 and SP-K9 to bring established driver technology into an affordable passive speaker range.

SP-K9: a floorstanding design

The SP-K9 uses two 6.5-inch HDS mid/bass drivers and a 1-inch XT tweeter. The mid/bass driver design includes a ferrite magnet system, a 20 mm-thick magnet and a 32 mm voice coil arrangement, providing linear excursion and responsive bass.

The source announcement cited a resonance frequency of approximately 42.9 Hz for the mid/bass unit. An aluminum shorting ring in the motor reduces inductance, helping extend response and reduce distortion.

The dual mid/bass arrangement is designed for substantial, natural midrange reproduction and clear vocal and instrumental detail.

The 1-inch XT tweeter uses a 25 mm soft-dome/ring-radiator design with a phase plug and waveguide. The preview described smooth response to 20 kHz, controlled dispersion and low phase and intermodulation distortion. Its phase optimization was also described as keeping low-frequency delay error below 0.1 ms.

SP-K7: a bookshelf design

The SP-K7 pairs one 6.5-inch HDS mid/bass driver with one 1-inch XT tweeter. Both models use 25 mm-thick high-density wood-fiber panels, internal bracing and smoothly finished corners to create rigid enclosures and reduce resonance.

The simple styling is intended to fit naturally into different home interiors.

The announced specifications were:

  • SP-K9: 90 dB sensitivity, 4 Ω impedance and an 80–120 W power rating.
  • SP-K7: 88 dB sensitivity, 8 Ω impedance and a 50–100 W power rating.

The models were designed to work with practical amplifier choices without requiring an unusually expensive, high-powered system.

Dedicated crossovers and internal wiring

KAIBOER developed dedicated crossovers to integrate the drivers across the frequency range. The component selection includes low-loss, low-ESR polypropylene capacitors, oxygen-free copper inductors and non-inductive aluminum-frame resistors.

The original article specified a 24 dB/octave filter slope and described the tuning goal as balanced response and smooth transitions between drivers.

Internal wiring was selected after tests with different conductor materials. The speakers use 150-strand, 1.178 mm² silver-plated 6N single-crystal copper wiring, with 320-strand, 2.5 mm² wiring for the crossover connections. This choice reflects KAIBOER’s wider experience in specialist audio cables.

Listening impressions

In KAIBOER’s listening account, the SP-K7 offered balanced tone in small and medium rooms, clear separation between voices and instruments, stable imaging and a smooth treble presentation.

The SP-K9 was described as better suited to larger dynamics and immersive listening. The original test account used the Interstellar soundtrack to explore transient response and bass character, reporting extension around 42.9 Hz and a controlled low-frequency presentation.

Paired with the DMP-K7 digital transport and A8 dual-ES9039PRO DAC, the speakers were also evaluated with orchestral music, Hotel California and Bohemian Rhapsody. The team described clear guitar detail, distinct vocal layers and strong image placement.

These are the manufacturer’s listening impressions from the original announcement.

Pricing and system context

The announced Chinese prices were RMB 3,999 per pair for the SP-K7 bookshelf speakers and RMB 5,999 per pair for the SP-K9 floorstanders. The article highlighted the cost of the Peerless units and approximately four meters of internal silver-plated single-crystal copper wiring in the floorstanding pair.

KAIBOER also reported that 75% of participants in a 30-person blind listening test considered the SP-K9 comparable in sound to imported speakers priced around RMB 30,000. This was a manufacturer-reported result from that launch period.

The article placed the speakers alongside the then-new DMP-K7 transport. Its Android 14-based MUPURE system, 8 GB RAM and 64 GB storage, linear supply and femtosecond oscillator supported local music, streaming and cloud/NAS sources. The transport was specified for DSD1024 and PCM up to 32-bit/1536 kHz, internal SSD expansion up to 8 TB and external drives up to 20 TB.

The Chinese-market DMP-K7 price and 30-day audition arrangement cited at the time were RMB 4,499 and a limited launch offer. Together, the products illustrated KAIBOER’s effort to offer a complete Hi-Fi system at more accessible prices.
