KAIBOER A8 and TEAC NT-505-X: A Look at Two DAC Approaches
Music enthusiasts often spend considerable time searching for a DAC that suits their system. This article translates KAIBOER’s May 2024 comparison of its A8 with the TEAC NT-505-X, looking at specifications, connections and listening priorities.
The specifications, market prices and listening descriptions below reflect the original article’s publication period.
Brand background
At the time, KAIBOER described seventeen years of specialist audio/video experience and presented the A8 as a flagship expression of its own development and tuning work.
TEAC is a long-established Japanese audio manufacturer. The original comparison highlighted the NT-505-X’s network music functions and high-resolution audio capabilities.

Conversion and timing
The A8 configuration listed in the article includes an XMOS USB audio processor, dual ESS ES9039PRO converters, femtosecond oscillators, native DSD512, PCM up to 32-bit/768 kHz and full MQA decoding.
For the NT-505-X, the article lists ESS ES9038Q2M conversion, DSD up to 22.5 MHz, PCM up to 32-bit/768 kHz, an external clock connection and MQA decoding. Input-specific limitations and service availability should be checked in the relevant product documentation.

Design and connectivity
KAIBOER’s A8 uses its own amplification design for XLR, RCA and headphone outputs. The original article lists coaxial, optical, asynchronous USB DAC and Type-C connections for computers and mobile devices, together with aptX HD Bluetooth input.
The NT-505-X takes a network-player approach, with access to services such as TIDAL and Qobuz and connections including coaxial input and USB storage.

Listening priorities
KAIBOER’s original listening account describes the A8 as spacious, full-bodied and dynamic, with strong detail retrieval across different musical styles.
The NT-505-X is described as refined through the midrange, with precise positioning and a layered presentation that suits live recordings. These are the author’s subjective impressions rather than independent laboratory conclusions.

Price and service at the time
During the Chinese 6.18 promotion referenced in the May 2024 article, the A8 was advertised below RMB 5,000 after discounts, with a 30-day audition arrangement and a lifetime warranty offer through the relevant domestic sales channel. The NT-505-X was described as priced above RMB 10,000 in that market.
These historical prices and domestic service statements do not establish current international pricing or warranty terms.

The better fit ultimately depends on a listener’s music preferences, source requirements, existing system and budget. Both approaches put the enjoyment of music at the center of the decision.
